THE PRECIOUS BLOOD

Some Primary Functions

 

§  Access To The Throne: Heb. 9:11-12; 10:19, When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation... He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption... Heb.10:19, Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus.

 

§  Redeems Sin's Slaves: Rev. 5:9, And they sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.

 

§  Purchases The Church: Acts 20:28, Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

 

§  Saves From The Pit: Zec. 9:11, As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.

 

§  Makes Peace Between The Races: Col. 1:20, And through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

 

§  Protects From The Destroyer: Ex. 12:23, When the LORD goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.

 

§  Atones For The Soul: Lev. 17:11, For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.

 

§  Protects Forever: Heb. 10:14; 13:20-21, Because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy... Heb. 13:20-21,May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep... equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

 

§  Sanctifies The People: Heb. 13:12, And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood.

 

§  Heals Sickness: 1 Peter 2:24, He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

 

§  Triumphs Over The Enemy: Col. 2:15, And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

 

§  Blots Out Charges: Col. 2:14, Having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.

 

§  Washes (Frees) The Saints: Rev. 1:5; 7:14; Ps. 51:7, And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood... Rev. 7:14, I answered, "Sir, you know." And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb... Ps. 51:7,Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

 

§  Cleanses From Sin: 1 Jn. 1:7, But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

 

§  Purges The Worshippers Conscience: Heb. 9:14, How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

 

§  Remits (Cancels) Sin: Heb. 9:22, In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

 

§  Forgiveness Of Sin: Eph. 1:7; Col. 1:14, In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace... Col. 1:14, In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. The Supremacy of Christ.

 

§  Justifies Sinners: Rom. 5:9, Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!

 

§  Overcomes The Accuser: Rev. 12:11,  They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

 

§  Speaks To God For Men (Mercy Seat): Heb. 12:24, To Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

 

§  One Third Of Earthly Trinity: 1 Jn. 5:8, The Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

 

§  Provides Fellowship Between Believers: 1 Cor. 10:16; 1 Jn. 1:7, Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?... 1 Jn. 1:7, But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

 

§  Ratifies Covenant Between God And Men: Ex. 24:5-8; Mat. 26:28; Heb. 9:18-20, Then he sent young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as fellowship offerings to the LORD... Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he sprinkled on the altar... Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, "We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey."... Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, "This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words."... Mat. 26:28, This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins... Heb. 9:18-20,This is why even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood... When Moses had proclaimed every commandment of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves, together with water, scarlet wool and branches of hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people...  He said, "This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep."
