How do you know when someone is serious about something? Is it by what they say or how they live? We have all encountered at one point or another someone who talks a big game and knows all the right things to say but when it comes to actually living out what they say, there is no follow through. Their talk does not match their walk and those are the kinds of people that we take what they say with a grain of salt because they have lost credibility.
Follow through determines the level of commitment we have to an idea, a cause and more importantly our faith. If we say that Jesus is the Lord of our lives but our follow through shows minimal commitment to his teaching and the life we have been called to live, can we really say that we are serious? Jesus himself says anyone who not only listens but follows his teaching - it must go past even the act of hearing to action. We cannot say we are committed and yet live like we have not encountered the saving grace of Jesus. We cannot call Jesus Lord if we are not willing to allow the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us to the Glory of God. We can’t just say it and not do it because then our lack of action, our failure to follow through will only serve to show that we are not really committed. And the people around us see that. They are not only looking at what we say, but if we actually live like we believe that Jesus is all we need. If our commitment stops at merely hearing, perhaps is time to get back to the drawing board.
