What does it mean to have Christ live in you? The imagery that comes to mind is of someone who buys a house. The old owner is all moved out and the new owner comes and begins the process of making the space theirs. They might paint, redo the bathroom or change the floors. They may even do extensive renovations to the kitchen, the bedrooms or the basement. Slowly the house will be transformed to reflect the identity of the new owners. The house is us. When we come to Jesus and make Him Lord of our lives He isn’t renting space where the changes that He can make are limited and subject to review from the board. Our lives are bought and paid for and as He settles in he begins to transform our hearts and lives to reflect who He is and what He is about. As Jesus works in our hearts, we become more and more like Him in our thoughts, our attitudes and our actions. And just like the house doesn’t fight against the changes the new owner desires to make, so we need to be compliant to the work that Jesus wants to do in us and the call that we have as His people. We are no longer the primary occupant, Jesus is and there is a work that He wants to do in each of us.
