Passage Matthew 8: 28-34

Verse Matthew 8: 34

Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.

Let Him In

It’s crazy right? Why would the town ask Jesus to leave -plead with him to leave their region after He performed this awesome miracle? There was an entire stretch of land that the people could not access because of these demon possessed men and here comes Jesus , rids the men and the region of the demons and He is asked to leave. Strange right? Who does that? The real answer, we do… all the time.
Our faith, while worth the effort isn’t without struggle. We fight against not only spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:12 ) but our own sinful desires.  And while it would be amazing if they all went away when we asked Jesus into our hearts that’s not quite how it works and we have to daily get before God for strength. It’s not an easy road and sometimes it feels better to just not fight it. Do What Comes Naturally is a song from the musical Annie Get Your Gun, and that’s what it’s all about, don’t fight it just lean into it. If it’s natural it can’t be all that bad right? Wrong. It can be and most times it is all that bad.
It can seem easier to shut God out of certain parts of our lives.  We know that if we let him poke around he’s going to want us to change or give something up that we really don’t want to. In a lot of cases we know that it isn’t good for us and we know that God would want us to change but maybe we have become so used to it, soused to the feeling it gives or the comfort it provides, that we rather keep that door under lock and key. We would rather ask Jesus to leave than allow Him to truly set us free.
Keep it moving Jesus, nothing to see here.
But is what you may be holding on to worth the freedom you could be experiencing in Christ? Think of what could have happened in the life of every person in that town if they had just let Jesus in…
