Psalm 119:50

My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.

Firm Grip Faith

What gives you hope when you are in trouble? What is it that you hold to when you go through difficult seasons in your life?
Here the psalmist says that it’s the promise of God that preserves his life. That is what He is holding on to. He’s white-knuckling it through this difficult season and he isn’t just hoping for the best. He isn’t crossing his fingers, praying he’ll make it through. No, he is comforted, in his suffering, that God’s word is true and that He is faithful and good and will take him through the difficulty.
That’s what should take us through those "Valley of the Shadow of Death" moments. Those moments when it is all darkness around us and we can’t see our hand in front of our face. We hold on to Jesus! We have a firm grip on Jesus because he not only walks with us, He preserves our life. We are in Him, He is in us and He is in the Father so we are safe and secure. This doesn’t mean that we won’t go through the valley, but as David says “His rod and staff will comfort” us. Even going through it God keeps us secure through the difficulty because he is faithful and He is good!
