Matthew 9:28

When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”

“Yes, Lord,” they replied.

Do You Believe?

This exchange is one that challenges me because it’s a question that comes up almost every time I need to trust God about something. And it’s challenging because it shouldn’t really be a question. I have walked with God and I have tasted and seen that He is good so many times. Yet, catch me at the right moment with the right amount of pressure applied and this question gives me pause. Have you ever felt like this? Do I believe? And if I do believe Can Jesus ACTUALLY do the “this” I am believing for?
Do you believe? Do you believe that God, your Heavenly Father is just, loving and good? Do you believe that He has plans for you and that those plans are always good? That no matter what you face, your Father will work it out for your benefit, and that though you may weep now that joy WILL come? Are those things you believe or do you stumble a bit? Maybe life has been hard and unfair. Maybe you thought you believed but haven’t seen the fruit of it? Maybe it’s easier to believe it for someone else than it is to believe it for yourself.
If you struggle with believing that God is good and that He is present, walking your journey with you then it will colour how you perceive Him and how much you trust Him. And I get that, I've been there myself, many times. But I would like you to try something: stop and take a moment to do a little inventory of the times God has come through for you. I'm not talking about the just the big things, anything you can recall and it could be as simple as being able to pay your bills. Sometimes we are so focused on the big things that we miss all the everyday things God does for us. The blind men heard of the things that Jesus was doing in the lives of the people in their community and that ignited faith in their hearts to seek Him out. To believe that He could do the same for them.
