Passage - Matthew 28: 16-20

Verse - Matthew 28: 20

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Comfort and Compel

What happens in your heart when you hear the words “I am with you always”? Are you filled with peace? With Joy? Does it fill you with a strong sense of security knowing that the God of this universe, the one that spoke it all into being, promises to be with you always, no matter what happens in your life? It should. That’s one of the amazing perks of being a child of God, He is never far from you. But that’s not the only feeling that this promise should elicit in our hearts.
The assured presence of God is not only there to provide safety and comfort, but it is also there to compels and empower us to live the lives that Jesus exemplified for us while he was on earth. This promise to be with us always was given after the command “go out into the world and make disciples.” Jesus didn’t suffer and die on the cross for us to come to know Him and keep it to ourselves, hoarding the comforting presence of His spirit. That same spirit is supposed to compel us to spread the Gospel, sharing the Good News and be living testimonies of His love for each person in this world. That promise to be with us always is also meant to strengthen us and empower us to boldly live the lives that we have been called to live as Christ followers, that even know the message may not be popular, even though we may face persecution, the God who said He has overcome the world has promised to be with us always. In times where it is easy to share our faith and in times when we will be persecuted for it, He remains, steadfast beside us. This promise shouldn’t just bring us peace but it should also ignite a fire in our hearts to ensure that we share this love with as many people as we can.
